Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God…”

Being a college student in a chaotic world and society, stillness is one of the most, if not the most, important aspect to instill. Taking a step back from the world and truly knowing that He is God is such a challenging task that requires a higher level of mental discipline. It is easy to become outwardly still, but the inward stillness I am talking about is when we center our being: our soul-mind-body. The person seeking inner stillness is someone who has embarked upon the journey into their own heart. Yes, the world is constantly moving and our stillness is constantly being tested, but the way to begin our journey towards inner stillness starts with being silent. Being silent is a core to inner stillness. We can’t get caught up in the chaos of the world and expect to remain still, it is our free choice to silence ourselves. Find your silence so that you may find your inner peace. Don’t be so quick to respond or to react to such noisy fog, but rather be silent, and let your thoughts become still before they become words.

In the midst of midterms and finals, I always get so overwhelmed with tests and studying and assignments, that I start to stress. Little did I know and recently learned, that being stressed is a sign of doubting God. But it is so easy to get caught up in a world where there are endless things that catch our attention, especially with so many events going on college campuses. But that is exactly why He wants us to not only be still but to remember that He is God. Stop, meditate and reflect on His goodness. Doing so will bring peace to your heart as you focus on the overwhelming greatness of His love.
